I am writing you to announce my candidacy for the San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors, District 2, and to ask you to join my campaign team.

My husband and I have called Stockton home for nearly 40 years.  Our children have established their own careers after 12 years in Lincoln schools, where I was actively involved in their school site councils, parent-teacher associations, and soccer leagues.

While raising my children, I also helped open the Women’s Center of San Joaquin County.  We started the Women’s Center in 1975 with two rooms and a phone.  Today the Center provides assistance to 25,000 people each year and operates the only emergency shelters in Stockton, Tracy and Lodi.  I have continued to support the Center, and was honored to be named Woman of Achievement by the San Joaquin Commission on the Status of Women for that service.

After five years at the Women’s Center, I became a life and health insurance agent.  My 17 years as an agent taught me the importance of providing quality service to clients while supporting an office and staff.

Nine years ago, then-Assemblymember Michael Machado offered me a position on his staff.  I closed my insurance business and joined his office, first as a District Representative and later as District Director. 

Today I feel that San Joaquin County is at a crossroads.  We need a clear direction and strong leadership to maintain our quality of life.  We must find real solutions for the many issues – growth, air quality, water, health care, transportation – facing our county.  I believe my life experience uniquely qualifies me for the position of County Supervisor.  I have learned the importance of listening to those we serve and being responsive to community concerns.
